Victim 01
I had two issues with Fiona:
1) Fiona and I were colleagues at the time, working in Zaventem. Fiona offered to order a brand new 40″ LCD televison for me (half price), using the internal employee purchase program, made available by the employer. Fiona’s internal contacts were better than mine, so she was also earlier informed about attractive offers. It was common practice at the time, internal orders couldn’t be placed by the employee itself, but always had to be done via a colleague, using upfront payment.
Fiona took the money (500 Euros), however never placed the internal order for the LCD television. Instead she came back with various excuses, and delay tactics.
I didn’t expect much harm, after all we were colleagues, working next to each other, so I expected this would get sorted out. Especially also because her reputation amongst the other colleagues was good. My manager even protected her, when I raised the issue.
2) Fiona pretended to be ill, having cancer. This makes you feel sorry of course. Not just because of the illness itself, but also the financial aspects coming with it. Chemo-therapy and other treatments were expensive, and reimbursement from the insurance company only followed later. To help Fiona through some difficult periods, I borrowed her 220 Euros. Would receive it back by the end of the month.
She still had not paid the money back, nor ordered the TV, when I heard she had resigned, and left the country. Also the story about having cancer turned out to be a lie.
