Victim 08
I’m the husband of one of the victims, and actively chasing the money. I started this in Dec 2006, below you’ll find some examples of tricks I’ve seen so far:
- Fiona does not accept, nor collect registered mail
- When “finding” Fiona in front of her house in Brussels (just moving out) she provided me a wrong new address. Claiming to be moving to Antwerp (Berchem), while in reality she left the country, and went to Gibraltar. Interrestingly enough, even at de-registering from the commune, she had provided incorrect information. To them she had pretended to be moving to London (Quensgate)
- I was able to have her sign a document, agreeing with the repayment obligations, mentioning a payment deadline. Although this was now a legal obligation, she just ignored it. After all, she had escaped from the country, started to use a new name, so thought she would be “safe”.
- The telephone number of her “lawyer”, who would sort everything out was a false number
- Bank transfers failed, presumably because of failures of the bank
- Payment promises where never kept
- Promises to let us know where she was were never kept. She tried to escape several times, by moving house or even country. She was annoyed when we found her again
- Fiona promised to have a tax-refund from Gibraltar transferred straight to my account. She asked me to fill in my bank details on the official form, and claimed in writing she did forward it to the tax authorities in Gibraltar. When I verified there myself, Fiona got angry, but it turned out they never received any details of me.
- Fiona suggested to have her German pension paid straight to our account. When requesting the Germans about the possibility to make this happen, she forwarded a negative answer to us. Fiona freaked out when I approached the Germans myself to verify her answer.
- Fiona offered to send us her bank card, so we could withdraw the money ourselves, straight from the machine. Because of the potential illegal aspect, and also because there was no garantee the money would in fact be on the account, we declined the offer.
- Along the way, I met various other people who were victim of Fiona. Banks, landlords, colleagues etc. each with their own, but often very similar stories
